"Live each day like it's your last."
People latch on to this idea like it's the gold standard of living a meaningful life. Truth is, it's probably the one maxim that - if you truly embraced it - would turn you into a self-centered slug in less than a day. (Which is one of the many reasons that few of us will ever honestly do it.)
Sure, it's intended to motivate us into an attitude of carpe diem, but really - if you knew that this was your final day, wouldn't that fact tend to bring out the worst (or at least, the most annoying) aspects of your personality?
I say yes. Listen to the blog, and let's see if you agree. While you're at it, let's think about a better way to live - one that guarantees that every day will be as meaningful as your last day.
What ever happened to women's dignity?
Since we're living in a time when women who retain their standards have been shouted down and mocked to the point of falling silent, you need to ask yourself a question: Have you sold yourself out?
Pour a cup of coffee, settle in, and let's discuss it.
Excerpts from the "I Am Woman...?" radio series
He nags. He nitpicks. He baits and berates you until you explode - after which, you feel exhausted, diminished, and humiliated. He calls you "crazy" (or worse) because... Well, because you react to his harassment.
Maybe you think he doesn't realize what he's doing to you - and that if you scream loudly enough, you'll "reach" him and he'll change his ways.
First, I'd be willing to bet that you're wrong. He knows exactly what he's doing, and he likes the results. That's why he keeps doing it.
And second, you aren't crazy: You just need to protect your dignity. Hold on to your sense of self. Keep your peace.
You need to stop taking the bait.
